Seven

The sound of amusement is so unexpected I freeze. One hand grips his shirt as my claws pierce the fabric. The other is wrapped around his throat as my teeth draw blood in his upper arm. My growl is silenced as the body beneath mine starts to shake as his sick humor continues to grow.

I release my teeth as I sit back, eyes wide and mouth parted. Peeling my lips back, I eye the male with disgust. At a loss for words, I can do nothing but wait out his fit.

In a matter of moments, he calms enough to speak, though amusement still colors his every word. “Its adorable that you think you still have a choice in any of this, little demon.”

I narrow my eyes, growl starting back up, soft but the meaning abundantly clear.

Tread carefully Aiden or next time I go for your throat.

“You’ve been mine since before your birth. I picked your parents and fed them just enough of my magic to ensure a strong and beautiful alpha female was conceived in a night of cruelty, not love. Every hit from your father was expected,” He tilts his head as if in deep thought, eyes still glued to mine. “No, needed. I needed you to grow desensitized, to expect the horrible and terrible to strike you suddenly at any time.”

He leans closer, his finger deceptively soft as he trails it down my cheek. “I made sure he festered with greed and hate. Jealousy. He killed your mother because I deemed it so.”

A tear slips down my cheek unchecked and he licks it clean.

“Your mother was reliable and strong, a model for you to learn from. But even she was a monster underneath it all, all of which I made sure you saw. Shall I go on little demon? Do you wish to know the deepest, darkest secrets?” Aiden doesn’t wait for an answer, he continued speaking, lips quirked in the corner as if he finds my twisted life nothing more than a game.

But then again, for him, my life is a game.

“You see, being the King of Hell does have its perks.” I barely notice the body drop into the chair to my right, my blue eyes remained fixed on the monster before me, wary and uncertain. “I have special talents I’m awarded because I skillfully gutted the last lord. That’s how Hell works. There’s no seven rings or a fallen angel by the name of Lucifer sitting on a throne, torturing horrible souls for eternity.”

Aiden leans forward, eyes glowing with a frightening intensity, a sick gleam of excitement in his gaze despite the horrors he speaks of.

“Instead, it’s the worst of all the sinners who have been dragged under that have a chance to kill their way to the top. The weak die in Hell, it’s as simple as that.” He spreads his arms wide, grin spreading wider. “But if there were no magical or mythical perks to the job, then there wouldn’t be nearly enough motivation to fight for this bloody throne.
